New Year - New Beginnings!

So...I've decided to start a blog. I've always liked to journal or diary about events in my life.  So why not do it electronically, right?  While the focus of this new venture is to journal about my weight loss journey, I expect I'll meander off the subject from time to time and add commentary about other events in my life as well.

To begin... I thought if I put it in writing this year and publish it for all the world to see there would be a greater likelihood I would actually DO it (unlike in years past).  So my goal this year is to lose 5 lbs a month so that by this time next year I will be 60 lbs lighter and healthier.

How do I plan to do it?  I've been researching it for months. I know that there are as many weight loss programs out there as there are stars in the sky. And most of them have their own success rates.  Heck, I've used at least a dozen of them (with or without success) in my life. But I always end up back where I started from, eventually.

In the past, the things that have worked best for me have been walking every day and counting calories and limiting fat intake. Not very sexy right?  But it works.  So I plan to:  eliminate the five "whites" - white sugar, white potatoes, white rice, white pasta and white bread for now because they're all "empty" carbohydrates and I need to focus on eating good carbs for now.  I plan to limit my fat intake to 30% or less of my daily caloric intake. I plan to walk at least 30 minutes everyday to start - I will increase that amount as my energy level increases.  And lastly I plan to eat no more than 1200 calories a day - again to start. I will adjust this up or down depending on how I'm doing.  I used this web site to help me get started, you might find it useful too.

Happy New Year all!
